Brian Schwaninger started out the business as a lawn care and firewood service provider. Over the years his passion for the firewood side of the business grew. Eventually, however, he realized he couldn’t stand to see some of the quality trees he was in contact with being made into firewood when they could be made into beautiful, useful lumber. At that point he purchased his first sawmill, a TimberKing B20. Over the next few years he honed his craft and expertise. Big Red Sawmill now houses a much more state-of-the-art TimberKing 2200 band saw that can handle logs up to 36″ in diameter and 34′ in length. Big Red also utilizes a 6000 bd. ft. forced air kiln-drying facility and a large firewood cutting and splitting machine that can handle up to 6 cords per hour.
Big Red Sawmill has kiln-dried lumber of various sizes and species for sale, wood products such as smoking chips/chunks and grilling wood, board planning services, cedar and hardwood mulch and, of course, firewood.
Big Red Sawmill is located just south of Palmyra, NE. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
